Pickleball is a fast-paced paddle sport that merges features from tennis, badminton, and table tennis. Played on a court similar to badminton’s, with a net akin to tennis but slightly lower, the game uses paddles larger than those in ping pong but smaller than tennis rackets. Players hit a light, perforated plastic ball over the net.
The sport is known for its straightforward rules and enjoyable gameplay, making it accessible and appealing to a wide range of ages and skill levels. Key aspects include underhand serving, a no-volley zone near the net to prevent smashes, and scoring primarily by the serving team. Matches are concise, often going to 11, 15, or 21 points. The emphasis on strategy and placement rather than power allows for a mix of competitiveness and social interaction.
